Commission vs No-Commission Baccarat: Banker Payouts Explained
Compare net profit, returned stake and outcome-weighted payments rather than assuming that removing an explicit commission improves a baccarat wager.

“No commission” sounds like the removal of a charge. In baccarat, the complete payment rule matters more than the label. A variant can remove the familiar Banker commission while changing another payment, so the correct comparison requires every relevant outcome.
The baseline below is standard eight-deck commission baccarat. Wizard of Odds' baccarat analysis reports an approximately 1.06% house edge for the main Banker wager under the standard 5% commission arrangement. This figure is not assigned to every baccarat variant or side bet.
Separate profit from gross return
For a €20 winning Banker wager with a 5% commission on winning profit, the deduction is €1. Net profit is €19. Including the returned €20 stake, the total return is €39.
A lost €20 wager has net result −€20. A push has net result zero when the stated rules return the stake. These different accounting quantities should not be mixed in a single formula. “Pays 0.95:1” describes profit relative to the stake, not the full returned amount.
A correct expected-net-result expression
Let pW be the probability that the main Banker wager wins and pL the probability that it loses, with ties treated as pushes. For a one-unit stake under the stated commission rule, expected net result is 0.95pW − pL.
The losing outcome must contribute −1 times its probability. Putting zero in that position while still using winning profit creates an incorrect calculation. A gross-return calculation would use different payment values and then subtract the original stake once.
Read the complete no-commission rule
Identify what happens to every Banker win, including any named exception. Also check how ties, void rounds and the particular game variant are treated. Do not infer a precise house edge from the words “no commission” without the full distribution and payout table.
For an explicitly hypothetical variant, imagine ordinary Banker wins pay one unit of profit, but a specified class of wins pays only half a unit. On a €20 stake, the exceptional win earns €10 profit and returns €30 including the stake. That example illustrates a changed payment; it is not a claim about an unidentified live table.

Let pE be the probability of an exceptional Banker win in that hypothetical variant. Its expected net result is pW − 0.5pE − pL, assuming the same winning and losing categories and ties as pushes.
Compared with the standard expression, the difference is 0.05pW − 0.5pE. Removing commission helps in one part of the equation, while the reduced exceptional payout hurts in another. Without the relevant probabilities and verified rules, the sign of the difference is unresolved.
Main bets and side bets need separate calculations
A side bet is a separate wager with its own winning events and payment schedule. The main Banker percentage does not describe it. Nor does a larger advertised multiplier establish a better expected return.
Record each selected position and its stake. If you place more than one wager, calculate total exposure and analyse each return on a consistent basis. A pleasant overall result in one round does not demonstrate that a particular side bet has favourable mathematics.
Expected cost is not the most likely session result
Using the rounded standard Banker edge of 1.06%, a hypothetical €1,000 of total qualifying main-bet turnover corresponds to approximately €10.60 of expected loss. That is an expectation under the specified rules, not a promise about a session or a claim that every player loses €10.60.
A higher stake produces more turnover for the same number of rounds. A no-commission label does not make that spending boundary irrelevant. Keep the amount you can comfortably lose separate from the mathematical comparison.
A pre-play rule check
Record the exact variant, number of decks where relevant, Banker profit payout, commission treatment, exceptional outcomes, tie handling and each additional bet. Consult an analysis that matches those rules. If it does not, leave the percentage unassigned.
The useful conclusion is precise: standard commission and a specific verified no-commission variant can be compared. “Commission” and “no commission” as generic labels cannot establish which unidentified table offers the better wager.
